Dampier Spearfishing Classic
After the initial competition date was cancelled due to bad weather, Sunday, 19 November 2016 saw the competition finally go ahead. Graham Carlisle from the WAUC in Perth flew up and helped run the show on behalf of the club. Graham ran an information session the night before which turned into a few beers and quite a few burgers consumed at the Hampton yacht club.

With the new financial year, WAUC are happy to announce we have been successful in gaining a safety grant from RecfishWest. In a nutshell this means we can offer the WA Freedive community subsidised, aka discounted Freedive courses!
However, different from last year, this year we have switched up our approach in the initiative. Now for the first time, you can select the provider and location of your Freedive course to gain the discount! Provided the training provider meets certain criteria

Spanish mackerel numbers this year were thin and scattered with few divers reporting regular sightings. Nonetheless some good fish were landed and entered into the MACKEREL1000.
This year’s event, which started in February and ended in October, attracted a field of over 50 entrants. Next year’s will run from January 1st to June 30th. The first mackerel entered was shot by Ryan Power at Yallingup in early February and the last in October by Caleb Moore at the Monte Bellos Islands. Hi Members and Supporters,
The Club has revamped it’s Events Calendar to include two more Competitions as well as a Club Champion award. Competitions are a great way to test your skills, socialise and meet other spearos, as well as have a great days diving. There is a good mix of Regional and Metro comps, so everyone gets a chance to be involved.
Remember these are mostly member only comps with free entry! So don’t forget to renew your membership if you haven’t done so already.
