We had awesome pancake flat conditions on Sunday for the WAUC Beagle Islands spearfishing competition.

14 pairs weighed in at the 2pm deadline. An average of 4 species per pair with 6 species the winner. Mackerel were thin on the day with only 3-4 fish landed and not many more seen.

West Australian Undersea Club is extremely proud to present a new group of FAD’s off Jurien Bay to the WA Spearfishing and Fishing community.

The FADs were deployed 15 January 2013 after WAUC member Jamie Moir successfully secured a grant through Recfish West (www.recfishwest.org.au)

Shallow water blackout is by far the main cause of fatalities from freedive spearfishing.

The WAUC is providing all members with the oppurtunity to apply for a subsidized freedive course run by Erez Beatus of Apnea Australia.

Cost to successful applicants will be $225.00, normal cost $550

There are 22 places up for grabs.

The knowledge gained from the course will assist in the awareness of the dangers of freediving. The aim is to develop and foster a culture and practice of safe freediving. Recfishwest delivers early Christmas present for recreational rock lobster fishers

Recreational fishers will benefit from dramatic changes to western rock lobster fishing rules which will come into effect before thestart of this year’s season.

The new rules, which include an increaseof the daily bag limit of rock lobster from six to eight are the result of successful negotiations between Recfishwest and the Department ofFisheries.

In addition, the revised set of ruleswill allow three licence holders to fish for rock lobster from one vessel.

This means that when three or more licence holders are on board, six pots can be pulled each trip and the boat limit increases to 24.… Read more

June 2012 has the West Australian Undersea Club introduce a brand new exciting spearfishing competition.

The Mackeral 1000 concept is simple, shoot the heaviest Spanish Mackeral and you win $1000 cash. The competition runs for 1 month (June 18 – July 18, 2012) and is open to WAUC members only (to join WAUC prior to entering comp is $30 for non members), entry fee into the competition is $20.
